The Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport is financially independent, meaning it does not rely on funds from local or state governments for its operations or capital expansions.
Most funding for Clinton National comes from the fees paid by those who use the Airport. These users include airlines, passengers, and companies that conduct operations at the Airport.
The Airport has an annual economic impact of more than $1.2 billion thanks to its operations. More than $45 million in taxes have been collected by the state of Arkansas, the city of Little Rock, and Pulaski County due to the Airport's operations during the last four years.

The cities of Atlanta, Georgia, Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, Denver, Colorado, Charlotte, North Carolina, Dallas-Love, Texas, Houston-Intercontinental, Texas, Chicago-O'Hare, Illinois, St. Louis, Missouri, Orlando-Sanford, Florida, and Las Vegas, Nevada were among its busiest routes in 2021.

In 1928, the first of what would become several aircraft manufacturers opened their business in the area immediately next to the airstrip. Today, the Airport is home to a sizable population of aircraft manufacturing and modification workers.
In 1930, the people of Little Rock bought the Airport. The following year, in 1931, American Airways, now known as American Airlines, began offering commercial aviation services.
Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport/Adams Field is the official name for the Airport. The word "Adams" was given in honor of Captain George Geyer Adams. They served with the 154th Observation Squadron of the Arkansas National Guard and were killed while performing their duties on September 4, 1937.
Captain Adams was on the City Council of Little Rock for a long time. Throughout that time, he was an essential part of the effort to encourage the Airport's expansion.
The Airport expanded from 40 to 640 acres, from one sod runway to three hard-surfaced runways. During World War II, it quickly became a significant hub for commercial and military flight operations.
The Airport was under the supervision of the War Department for the whole of World War II. As soon as the war was over, the City of Little Rock regained authority and reinstated daily commercial aviation service. This occurred not long after the conflict had finished.
A significant amount of runway work was done at the Airport in 1953. Shortly afterward, the first instrument landing system (ILS) was implemented.
A second commercial service runway was inaugurated in 1991. During the 1990s, more than $170 million was spent on capital improvements at Little Rock National to ensure the facility would still be used in the new century.
In 2012, the Airport was given the new name Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport. In 1978, Delta began flying DC-8 planes into and out of Little Rock.
